Texts & Human Experiences – Practice Lab

Move from micro-skills to independent responses. Each station teaches the exact thinking needed for the question before the scaffold is removed.

How this works

The goal is not to “get the right answer” from a dropdown. The dropdowns teach the thinking pattern. Each station follows:

1 IdentifyWhat is the human experience?
2 EvidenceWhich detail proves it?
3 TechniqueHow is it represented?
4 MeaningWhat does the choice suggest?
5 ResponseWrite independently.

Q1 – 3 marks

How does the poet convey a sense of loss?

Text 1 – “Making Frittatas”

Ten years is a long time and I have missed you. ... You taught me how to do this. After ten years during which I assumed you did not cook—time stops when we are absent— ... And so, today, I think: it is all the simple times of sharing simple things that we have missed. The mutual teaching and learning that is, or should be, a daughter’s and a mother’s right.

Weak answer

The river is important because everyone needs it. The writer says “shared interest”. This shows they share the river. It is a good river.
